Joan and her feoffees granted the reversion to William Kenewalmersh and his co-feoffees named in 660 and the heirs of Joan in fee. Hugh quitclaimed the 1/3 castle, manor and advowson to William and his co-feoffees, who remain seised. By a fine levied Mich. three weeks 1417 [CP 25/1/291/64, no. 62] between Nicholas Ruggeley, esquire , and his wife Edith, quer., and Hugh de Strauley, esquire , and his wife Joyce, def., Hugh and Joyce acknowledged the 1/3 castle, manors and advowson to be the right of Edith and for themselves and the heirs of Joyce granted the reversion of the 1/3 which Hugh Burnell, knight , held for life of Joyce's inheritance and which ought to revert to Hugh and Joyce and the heirs of Joyce, to Nicholas and Edith and the heirs of Edith. By another fine levied Mich. one month 1417 [CP 25/1/291/64, no. 63] between Joan widow of William Beauchamp of Abergavenny, knight , Philip Morgon, clerk, now bishop of Worcester , Bartholomew Brokesby, esquire , and John Russell , quer., and Nicholas Ruggeley, esquire , and his wife Edith, def., Nicholas and Edith acknowledged the 1/3 castle, manors and advowson to be the right of Joan and granted the reversion after Hugh Burnell 's death to Joan, her feoffees and the heirs of Joan for ever. Hugh afterwards quitclaimed his estate to Joan and her feoffees. Joan and her feoffees afterwards demised the 1/3 castle, manors and advowson to John Garlethorp , Thomas Huyes , John Northern , clerks, Robert Keleby and William Aubray , and they in turn devised them to William Kenewalmersh and his co-feoffees named in 660, who remain seised. The remaining 2/3 of the castle, manors and advowson are held of the king in chief by knight service, but by what portion of a fee is unknown. Holdings

He was seised in his demesne as of fee of the manors of East Ham, West Ham, Boreham and Great Holland and long before he died granted them to Robert Rykedon of Witham, John Whitside, clerk , and Richard Fox of Haselbech and their heirs in fee. They were seised and by their charter dated at Boreham on 20 Dec. 1414 granted them to Hugh Burnell, knight, lord of Holdgate and Weoley , for life, reversion to them and their heirs. The same feoffees by their deed dated at Boreham on 18 June 1415 granted the reversion of the manors to Edward Burnell, knight , now dead, and his wife Elizabeth, who survives, and to the heirs of their bodies, remainder to Hugh's right heirs. Hugh attorned to Edward and Elizabeth by a deed dated 19 June 1415. Edward died withou issue by Elizabeth. Hugh afterwards granted his estate in the manors to Robert Rykedon and his co-feoffees named in 654; they afterwards demised the manors of East Ham, West Ham and Boreham to Hugh for life and he was seised. By a deed dated 12 July 1416 the feoffees granted the reversion after the deaths of Hugh and Elizabeth to Walter Hungerford, knight , his son Edmund and Margery, daughter and one of the heirs of Edward Burnell, knight , deceased, and the heirs of the bodies of Edmund and Margery, remainder to Hugh's right heirs. Hugh and Elizabeth attorned to Walter, Edmund and Margery, all of whom survive. Hugh therefore held the manors of East Ham, West Ham, Boreham and Great Holland for life, reversion to Elizabeth, who survives, remainder to Walter, Edmund and Margery and the heirs of the bodies of Edmund and Margery. He also held for life the manors of Stansted Mountfitchet, Little Waltham otherwise called Powers, Walter Hall and Latchingdon by demise of Robert Rykedon of Witham and his co-feoffees named in 654 by a charter dated 4 July 1416, reversion to Walter Hungerford, knight , his son Edmund, Margery, daughter and one of the heirs of Edward Burnell, knight , deceased, Hugh's son, and the heirs of the bodies of Edmund and Margery, remainder to the right heirs of Hugh. There are in the manor of East Ham and West Ham the site containing a messuage with garden, annual value nil; 26 a. arable, annual value 6s. 6d. at 3d. an acre; 145 a. marsh, annual value nil because submersed; £20 assize rents of free and customary tenants; 1 qtr. 6 bushels wheat worth 7s.; perquisites of court, annual value 24s.
