HUNTINGDONSHIRE. Inquisition. Huntingdon 3 November 1429. [ Foster ].

Holdings
She held the following in demesne as of fee. Washingley,
a toft, 40 a. arable, 4 a. meadow, and 6 a. wood, worth nothing yearly above rent, held of the king in chief as 1/100 knight’s fee and by rendering 20s. yearly, delivered by the sheriff; and
20 a. land, 16 a. meadow, 20 a. wood, and 10 a. pasture, worth nothing yearly above the rent, held of Joan, queen of England , in socage by rendering 18s. at Michaelmas only.
By a fine levied in 1365 [CP 25/1/94/29 no. 126] between Robert de Horneby , William de Brereley , and Thomas Berton of Kynnesley , deforc., and Robert Wasshyngley and Joan his wife, quer., regarding the manor of Washingley, Robert, William, and Thomas granted the manor, with the exception of 60 a. land, 20 a. meadow, 40 a. wood, 10 a. pasture, and advowson of the church, to Robert and Joan to hold of the chief lords of that fee for life with successive remainders to Richard their son, and the heirs of his body; to Robert brother of Richard and the heirs of his body; to the heirs of the bodies of Robert Wasshyngley and Joan; and to the right heirs of Robert Wasshyngley in perpetuity. Robert and Joan also had a daughter, Margaret. She married John Drewe and they had issue: Richard Drewe , still living. Robert died, then Richard son of Robert and Joan died without heir of his body. Robert his brother then died without heir of his body and Joan died seised of the manor and advowson, exceptions excepted.
Washingley, the manor, held of Humphrey, earl of Stafford , as of his fee of Lovetot as ½ knight’s fee. There are 24 a. arable, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 16 a. pasture, each acre worth 1d. yearly; 6 a. wood, each acre worth 8d. yearly; a court baron held twice yearly, worth nothing yearly above the seneschal’s costs; 9s. assize rent, payable at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts; rent of one capon, price 3d. yearly; and rent of 1lb cumin, price 1d. yearly.

She died on 7 May 1426. Richard Drewe is her kin and next heir as the son of Margaret daughter of Joan and Robert, and aged 32 and more.

Robert Moygne of Donington in Lincolnshire, ‘gentilman’, and John Berton of Whaplode in Lincolnshire, ‘yoman’, have taken all the issues from the date of her death until now, title unknown.

Washingley, the manor, held of the king in chief by knight service. There are 360 a. demesne land, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 4 a. meadow, each acre worth 2s. yearly; and 20 a. wood, each acre worth 2s. yearly.
She died on 3 May 1426. Identity of the heir as 244, except that he is aged 26 and more.
Richard immediately entered the manor after her death without royal licence and without due process of law. He alienated it in fee to Robert Hakebeche, chevalier , and Robert Moygne without royal licence, and Robert Hakebeche , Robert Moygne , and Richard Drewe took all the manor’s issues from the date of Joan’s death until now, for which they are answerable to the king.
