Long before his death, he granted the manors of Clapcot and Rush Court, and other lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, reversions, services, waters, and fisheries in Clapcot to John Ernesby, rector of Checkendon , and to his heirs in perpetuity. The grant was made by charter dated Clapcot 29 September 1428. It was shown to the jurors. John Ernesby demised the manors etc. to Edmund Rede , now deceased, and Christine his wife, still living, for the life of Robert James , with successive remainders to Katherine wife of John son of Robert, still living, for life without impeachment of waste; to Edmund and Christine and the heirs of their bodies; and to Maud wife of Robert James , still living, for life without impeachment of waste. The grant was made by charter dated Clapcot 28 February 1429. It was shown to the jurors.
