By a fine levied on the octave of Martinmas 1427 [CP 25/1/292/66 no. 71], Reynold Kentwode, clerk , and John Lynfeld, clerk , deforc., granted Robert James , quer., the manors of Muswell and Headington, and the bailiwick of the forests of Shotover and Stow Wood, for life, with successive remainders wholly to Edmund Rede , now deceased, and Christine his wife, still living, and to the heirs of their bodies; and to the heirs of Christine’s body. Headington, the manor. It contains 20 messuages and 2 carucates of land, and the manor, messuages, carucates, and bailiwick of the Shotover and Stow Wood are held of the king in chief by keeping the forests for all services. Annual value 60s., of which 40s. is from assize rent payable at Christmas, Lady Day, Midsummer, and Michaelmas by equal parts. Muswell, the manor, annual value 40s. Long before his death, he granted the manors of Clapcot and Rush Court, and other lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, reversions, services, waters, and fisheries in Clapcot to John Ernesby, rector of Checkendon , and to his heirs in perpetuity. The grant was made by charter dated Clapcot 29 September 1428. It was shown to the jurors. John Ernesby demised the manors etc. to Edmund Rede , now deceased, and Christine his wife, still living, for the life of Robert James , with successive remainders to Katherine wife of John son of Robert, still living, for life without impeachment of waste; to Edmund and Christine and the heirs of their bodies; and to Maud wife of Robert James , still living, for life without impeachment of waste. The grant was made by charter dated Clapcot 28 February 1429. It was shown to the jurors. Clapcot and Rush Court, the manors; and Clapcot, lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, reversions, services, waters, and fisheries, held of Katherine, queen of England, as of her honour of Wallingford, service unknown. Their annual value is £20, all of which is from assize rent payable at the four terms of the year by equal parts.

He held the following for life by grant of Reynold Kentwode, clerk , and John Lynfeld, clerk , by a fine levied at Westminster on the octave of Martinmas 1427 [CP 25/1/292/66 no. 71:] the manors of Boarstall, Addingrove, and Oakley, and 20 messuages, 2 bovates, 8 carucates, and 40 a. land, 50 a. meadow, 681 a. pasture, 60 a. wood, and £12 5s. 5d. rent in Oakley, Brill, Boarstall, East Claydon, Middle Claydon, Botolph Claydon, Thomley, and Ickford, and the bailiwick of the forest of Bernwood. Boarstall, the manor, held, with the exception of two messuages, a toft, and 3 carucates of land, of the king in chief by serjeanty by keeping the forest of Bernwood and by rent of 60s., payable yearly to the king on 30 September. Annual value 100s. The two messuages, toft, and one carucate of land, annual value 20s., are held of Katherine, queen of England, as of her honour of Wallingford by suit at her court once yearly, at the court held next after Michaelmas. The two carucates of land, annual value 10s., are held of Thomas Chaucer, esquire , and John Barton as of their manor of Brill by rendering 72s. yearly and suit at their court. Oakley, the manor, annual value 10s., held of Katherine, queen of England, as of her honour of Wallingford by suit at her court once yearly, as above. Addingrove, the manor, annual value 60s., held of Lady Bourchier as of the manor of Pollicott, service unknown. The 81 a., 1½ roods of pasture, annual value 40s., are held of the king in chief by 14s. 3¾d., payable yearly to the king on 30 September. Reynold and John, deforc., granted Robert James , quer., the above manors, lands, tenements, rents, and the bailiwick, among other things, for life provided that the following takes place after his death. The manor of Boarstall, and the tenements, rent, and bailiwick should remain to Edmund Rede , now deceased, and Christine his wife, still living, and to the heirs of their bodies. The manors of Addingrove and Oakley should remain to Maud wife of Robert, still living, for life, with remainder to Edmund, now deceased, and Christine, still living, and their heirs. Failing heirs of the bodies of Christine and Edmund, the above should remain successively to the heirs of Christine’s body; to Thomas Bruns, clerk , for life; to John son of Henry Popham and nephew of Robert, and to the heirs of his body; to the heirs of the body of Richard son of William Bruns of Sutton in Berkshire; to Lewis Mewes , and to the heirs of his body; and to the right heirs of Robert in perpetuity.
