Peter Beltoft was lately seised in demesne as of fee of
the manor of Azerley, which he held of ‪ Edward III as 1/20 knight’s fee.
He afterwards granted the manor to Margery wife of Thomas Beltoft , his son, and to the heirs of Thomas Beltoft by Margery. Thomas Beltoft was her first husband. Thomas died and Margery married Richard de Morton of Scotton. As shown by letters patent dated Westminster 15 January 1376, shown to the jurors, ‪ Edward III pardoned Richard and Margery for Margery’s acquisition of the manor and her entry into it without royal licence [CPR 1374–1377, pp. 79, 215]. The pardon was made upon payment of 100s. by Richard and Margery. Margery afterwards died and the manor descended to Katherine as daughter and heir of Thomas Beltoft by Margery. Katherine and Robert Sheffeld, her son, afterwards demised the manor, described as the manor of Azerley and all other lands and tenements, rents, and services in Azerley, to John Quyxley, junior , of Ripon, to hold from Martinmas 1428 for twenty years, rendering 6 marks yearly to Katherine and Robert Sheffeld, and their heirs and assigns, at the feasts of St Laurence the Martyr and St Vincent the Martyr by equal parts. The grant was made by indented deed dated York Castle 21 October A.D. 1428: it was shown to the jurors.
Azerley, the manor. There are 10 messuages, 12 tofts, and 6 cottages, worth nothing yearly; 16 gardens, each worth 4d. yearly; 18 bovates, each worth 2s. yearly; 20 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 500 a. pasture, each acre worth ½d. yearly; 30s. rent from free tenants for various lands and tenements, payable at Martinmas and Pentecost by equal parts.

Katherine died on 22 March last. Robert Sheffeld is her son and next heir, and aged 30 and more.
