RICHARD WYDEVYLL, KNIGHT , AND JACQUETTA OF LUXEMBURG WHO WAS WIFE OF JOHN, DUKE OF BEDFORD

Order to escheator to assign to them dower from all castles, lordships, vills, manors, lands, tenements, fees, advowsons of churches, annuities, franchises, liberties, possessions and hereditaments whatsoever held by John, duke of Bedford , in fee simple or fee tail in England, Jersey, Guernsey and in the vill of Calais, with the profits since 23 March last, the king having granted on 6 February 1436, by advice and assent of the council, that she might sue for and have such dower and have the profits since 2 February that year, and then having pardoned, on 23 March last, their trespass of marrying without licence [CClR 1435–41, p. 91].

Assigned: a third part of the castle and of the houses within the castle site, viz., all and singular of the houses and buildings joined together called ‘le Yattehowse’, with all rooms, chambers and parcels above and below; a third part of a prison, of the great tower there, called ‘le Dongyn’, on the east side, as divided and assigned there; and a third part of all the bottom or ground inside the castle, on the east side of the castle, as divided and bounded there, with free entry and exit to and from all premises, as lately accustomed. Assigned: the park or pasture of St Briavels, containing 100 a. by estimation, annual value 53s. 4d. Assigned: all lands and tenements in the forest formerly of John Parpyn , which John, lately duke of Bedford , purchased from him, now demised at farm to various people, annual value 60s. Assigned: all the profit for coal made in the forest of Dean from whatsoever pits, payable by the hands of the occupiers of the pits according to greater and lesser (maius et minus), together with whatsoever moneys and profits emerge yearly, annual value £16. Assigned: a pasture called ‘Wallemore’, annual value 14s. Assigned: all pannage of pigs and agistment of cattle in the forest, annual value 20s. Assigned: the profit from fines of pigs within the forest at the fence time, annual value 40s. Assigned: a third part of all perquisites of court and of the view of frankpledge, including a third of all fines, amercements and other commodities whatsoever; a third part of waif and stray, chattels of felons and fugitives, escheats and all other casual profits and things belonging to the castle of St Briavels and the said vills.
