Holdings

Tythecott, 53s. 9 3/4d. rent from lands and tenements of the following individual free tenants at Christmas, Easter, Midsummer and Michaelmas: William Galdesore , Thomas Colyn , Walter Gybbe , Richard Kysse , Henry Viell , Richard Rose , John Todecote , John Holme , John Harry and Richard Stapildon ’s heirs. The separate tenants held their lands and tenements of Edmund by knight service and he held them as mesne tenant of the king of his duchy of Lancaster by knight service.
?Moreleigh (Morlegh), moiety of 19s. rent from lands and tenements of the following individual free tenants at Michaelmas: Richard Hurte , Walter atte Furse , John Tircleue , the prior of Plympton , Stephen Melegh , Thomas Stone , Andrew Blakhalle , John Thomas , Thomas Powre , Thomas Martyn , William Blakhalle , the heirs of Guy de Brian, knight , and Richard Hillersdon ’s heirs. The separate tenants held their lands and tenements of Edmund by knight service and he held them as mesne tenant of Thomas earl of Devon , a minor in the king’s wardship, of his castle of Plympton by knight service.
?Tidcombe and ?Cotton, moiety of 52s. 4d. rent and rent of 1/4lb. pepper from lands and tenements of the following individual free tenants at Michaelmas: Walter Yongecomb ’, Peter Mayn , John Worthi ’s heirs, Thomas atte Lake , John Coleton , Stephen Beally and John Comb ’. The separate tenants held their lands and tenements of Edmund in socage and he held them as mesne tenant of William Lord de Soche in socage.
Richard le Warre , Robert Blakaller and Alfred Durant n768_001 were formerly seised of the following in their demesne as of fee.
Fishacre, the services and rent of 60s. of the following individual free tenants: William Gilbert , William Holecomb , Thomas Coleton ’s heirs, John Ageman , John Holecomb ’, John Walssh , Nicholas Hemston , John Denssh , William Blakaller and William Forde ; and a messuage and carucate, worth 20s. yearly.
Rowden, a carucate, worth 13s. 4d. yearly.
Combe Fishacre, 6 ferlings, worth 30s. yearly.
Ambrook, a ferling, worth 10s. yearly.
Collaton, 3 ferlings, worth 15s. yearly.
?Tidcombe, 40 a. land, worth 13s. 4d. yearly.
Wyke, 60 a. land, worth 16s. yearly.
Plymlegh, a ferling, worth 8s. yearly.
Bremridge, 24 a. land, worth 4s. yearly.

They gave and granted these lands and tenements, described as all messuages, lands and tenements, reversions, rents and services, both free and villein, in Fishacre, Rowdon, Combe Fishacre, ?Tidcombe, Collaton, Kingswear, Wyke, Plymlegh, Ingsdon, Ambrook, Bremridge and ?Cotton, by their deed shown to the jurors and dated 5 December 1383, to Martin Fysshacre and Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of their bodies, successive remainders to Alice daughter of Martin and Agnes Speke his late wife, and the heirs of her body; and to the right heirs of Martin. Martin and Elizabeth were seised in their demesne as of fee tail. Martin died without heir by Elizabeth, who survived him and was seised by virtue of the gift. Alice had issue this Edmund and died. Afterwards, Elizabeth, described as Elizabeth who was the wife of John Chuselden , granted by her indented deed, similarly shown to the jurors and dated at Holcombe Rogus, 25 April 1424, the following lands and tenements among others which she held in dower of the inheritance of Edmund and the aforesaid William Holeway [sic] –
namely 1/2 carucate in Warcombe, worth 10s. yearly,
2 ferlings in Boohay, worth 15s. yearly,
a ferling in Elwell, worth 40d. yearly,
a carucate in Hooe (Hoo), worth 3s. 6d. yearly,n768_002
40 a. land in Croft, worth 10s. yearly,
described as all messuages, lands and tenements, reversions, rents and services, both free and villein, appurtenances and liberties in Fishacre and other vills listed above and Warcombe, Boohay, Elwell, Hooe and Croft, with
the passage-way from Kingswear and elsewhere within the hundred of Haytor
– to Edmund, his heirs and assigns, for the life of Elizabeth, paying her £30 sterling at the four principal and usual annual terms, and if the £30 rent should be in arrears in part or in whole for a quarter of a year after any of these terms and the messuage, lands and tenements not furnish sufficient distraint, then she was permitted to re-enter the messuage, lands, tenements, reversions, rents and services and have them in her former estate, the above indented charter not withstanding. Edmund was seised both of free tenement and of fee by virtue of the remainder and reversion to him. By his deed shown to the jurors and dated at Torre, 7 October 1426, he granted these lands and tenements among other lands and tenements, described as all his messuages, lands, tenements, reversions, rents and services, appurtenances and liberties in Devon and Somerset, to John Gambon of Moorstone Barton, Robert Lyttelton and John Gambon, junior , their heirs and assigns. John, Robert and John were seised in their demesne as of fee of all these lands and tenements except the services and rents of the individual free tenants in Fishacre and Kingswear of which he died seised in his demesne as of fee, and the following of which Edmund was seised in reversion as of fee and right:
a carucate in Rowdon which Thomas Holecomb ’ holds for life by rent of a rose yearly by demise of Martin

3 ferlings in Collaton which Thomas Coppe holds for life by demise of Martin
;
1 1/2 ferlings and 4 a. land in Combe Fishacre, a ferling and another ferling there which, respectively, William Johan , John Walssh and Bartholomew Wollecomb ’ hold separately by demise of Martin

a ferling in Ambrook which Ellis Lucas holds for life by demise of Martin
. The lands and tenements in are held of Roger West, chevalier , services unknown;
the tenements in Rowdon are held of the heirs of Amaury Sancto Amando, services unknown

He died seised in his demesne as of fee of 50s. rent in Wonford from lands and tenements called ‘Spekesdowne’, held of Thomas earl of Salisbury , services unknown.
He married Joan daughter of William Walrond , who survives.

He died on 8 October last. John, son of Edmund and Joan, is his next heir and was born on 15 September last.
