THOMAS TUDENHAM BROTHER AND HEIR OF ROBERT TUDENHAM SON AND HEIR OF ROBERT TUDENHAM

The jurors say that Thomas was born at Eriswell and baptised in the church there, and was aged 21 years on 10 May last. They know well for the following reasons. Robert Sopere , aged 50 years and more, carried a basin and silver ewer from the manor of Eriswell to the church to provide water for the godfathers and godmother to wash their hands after Thomas was raised from the font. John Speed , 59 years and more, carried a torch from the manor to the church before Thomas and held it while he was baptised. John Domynyk , 60 years and more, carried two silver pots with clary and malmsey and four silver goblets from the manor to the church for the godfathers and godmother and others there to share the day Thomas was baptised. William Neve , 50 years and more, says that Edmund his father was buried in Eriswell church in the chapel of the St Mary the virgin on the south of the church, the day that Thomas was born. Henry Chapman , 47 years and more, saw many men coming from the church after Thomas was baptised and they related to him that Thomas was baptised, to his great joy. Edmund Mitton , 60 years and more, says that Katherine his daughter was espoused to Robert Mildenhale and Edmund was at the espousals at Eriswell the same day that Thomas was baptised. Adam Lamberd , 48 years and more, was taken ill and was laid up for a year, and very many of his neighbours told him that Ralph was born at Eriswell and baptised in the church there. John Barbour , 49 years and more, was sent immediately after Ralph’s birth for Joan Ereswelle to act as Thomas’s godparent and name him. Nicholas Duffeld , 50 years and more, had a son named William born at Eriswell the day that Thomas was born. Robert Playford , 47 years and more, saw Thomas, parson of Eriswell church , godfather, give Thomas there soon after he was baptised a silver goblet with a lid and his nurse 6s. 8d. William Sygo , 45 years and more, says that Margaret his wife was asked at the time of Thomas’s birth to help Thomas’s mother. William Coote , 60 years and more, saw Thomas, parson of Eriswell church , godfather give Thomas there soon after he was raised from the font a little silver bell and his nurse 6s. 8d.
