He held the following of the king in chief.
Rumbridge, the manor, held by fealty and petty serjeanty of rendering 100 barbed arrows or 8s. 4d. yearly at the sheriff’s proffer next after Michaelmas. The manor has always been called and known by the name of the manor of Rumbridge, and also by the name of 24s. rent, because the manor was granted to Philip Baldot – whose heir John was – and his heirs, for (pro valore) an annual rent of 24s., and by the name of 24s. rent. In the manor there are 6 messuages, which from John’s death have lain in decay, waste and ruinous, and were not and could not be demised at farm, and so are worth nothing this year nor from the time of John’s death; 30 a. land which since John’s death has thorns growing everywhere, and so has lain fallow (frisc’), without tenant (extra tenuram) and unoccupied, and could in no way be demised at farm; 24s. free rent payable at Easter and Michaelmas issuing from the lands and tenements of various free tenants; and a court baron held every three weeks, worth nothing yearly beyond the fee of the steward holding the court. The manor, with the rent of 24s., is and has always been worth only 16s. yearly beyond the reprises and other burdens incumbent on it.
Since John’s death the sheriff has answered yearly for this 16s. in his account at the Exchequer, as is of record there.

He died on 20 June 1443. Ellen is his daughter and next heir, aged 40 and more.

[Head:] Delivered to chancery in 23 Henry VI [1444–5].
