Surlingham, a great chamber in the southern part of the manor with a small chamber called ‘le drawetchaymbre’ annexed; 1/3 grange on its eastern side; vacant land or garden, 8 perches in breadth, and extending in length from the northern end of the hall on the manorial site to ‘le Chirchdyke’; a dovecot; and 40 a. arable,n360 located as follows: – 4 a. are called ‘Pantland’ and lie in ‘le Hall Croft’ between land of Geoffrey Roket on the east and Surlingham common on the west, and Andrew Syre ’s land on the south, and land of the church of St Salvator on the north; – 1 1/2 a. lie in ‘le Hall Croft’ between Andrew Syre ’s land on the east and land of the church of St Salvator on the south, and manorial demesne land on the west and north; – 2 a. lie in ‘le Hall Croft’ between Andrew Syre’s land on the west and ‘le Alderkarre’ on the north, land of Surlingham manor on the west, and land called ‘Matsales’ on the east;n361 – one acre and one rood lie on 5 acres between the land of a tenement called ‘Carrowland’ on the west, land called ‘Grene Tenement’ on the east, Alexander Lesyngham ’s land on the north, and ‘Sprottys Tenement’ on the south; – one rood called ‘le Medowe Rode’ lies between the meadow called ‘Gooswade’ on the east, Andrew Syre ’s land on the west, Thomas Roket ’s land on the north, and the king’s way on the south; – 4 a. called ‘Ledelond’ lie between ‘Duddys’ tenement on the east, the king’s way on the west, John Peers’ land on the north, and Roger Bunch ’s land on the south; – 3 a. lie in Roger Bunch ’s croft between Geoffrey Roket ’s land on the west, and the same Roger’s land on the east, north, and south; – 9 a. lie in ‘le Overbrech’ between ‘le Gretbrech’ of the manor on the east, Carrow tenement on the west, Emma Benet’s land on the north, and Rockland St Mary common on the south; – 7 a. lie in ‘Brankcroft’ between Robert Spall ’s land on the east, Godfrey Prank ’s land on the west, the king’s way from Bramerton on the north, and Robert Cory’s land on the south; – 9 a. lie in ‘le Rydyng’ between Andrew Syre ’s land on the east, Andrew Hall ’s land on the west, Bramerton common on the north, and the king’s way from Bramerton on the south.
Also assigned in the manor: 11 a. meadow, of which 9 a. lie together in ‘le Gretmedowe’ below Surlingham manor, between another parcel of meadow of the same manor on the east, Thomas Roket ’s meadow on the west, the great Wensum river on the north, and meadow called ‘Herdewes’ on the south; and the remaining 2 a. of the 11 a. meadow are called ‘Gooswade’ and lie between land called ‘le Litilmersh’ on the north, meadow called ‘Colestenement’ on the south, Henry Brian ’s land on the east, and another parcel of meadow of the manor called ‘M[e]dewrode’ [hole in ms] on the west; 3 a. marsh, of which 2 a. lie below ‘le Alderkarre’ between ‘le Gretmedowe’ on the east and marsh of the same manor on the west, and the remaining acre of marsh is called ‘Junam’ and lies between ‘le Manerzerd’ and ‘Matteshall’; 3 a. in ‘le Alderkarre’, lying together next to Andrew Syre's ditch and between a meadow called ‘Abbey Medowe’ on the north, and a footpath called ‘Abbey Gate’ on the south; 10 a. wood on the eastern side of a great wood called ‘Surlyngham Wode’; and a rabbit-warren (‘conyngyerd’) called ‘Mekillome’.
Also assigned in the manor, the following rents: – customary rents taken by Isabel in name of her dower from all those lands and tenements in Rockland St Mary held by customary rent from the manor of Surlingham, viz., £7 8s. 11 1/2d. rent; – customary rents in Surlingham, viz., from Roger Bunch , 39s. 9d., from John Benet , 9s. 4d., and from Alexander Lesyngham , 4s. 5d.; – assize rent in Surlingham, viz., from Henry Brian , 5s. 9d., from Thomas Love , 2s. 6d., from Geoffrey Syre , 12d., from Thomas Dussyng , ?20d. [ms dirty], and from William Stutt , 10d.; – an annual rent of 10 quarters and 2 1/2 bushels of barley, called ‘fermecorne’ from various tenants in Rockland St Mary, viz., from William Benselyn , 7 1/2 bushels, from William Sendell , 2 quarters and 2 1/2 bushels, from Thomas Love , 1/2 quarter and 1/2 bushel, from John Norman , one quarter and 5 bushels, from John Preston , 7 bushels... Isabel was to hold the above in name of her dower in due form of law with due entrance and exit to and from the above at her pleasure.
