MARGARET WIFE OF GEOFFREY RADCLYF, CHEVALIER
Inquisition Head
CITY OF NORWICH. Proof of age. Norwich 30 November 1430. [Caumbrigge].
John Ranelee , 41 and more, swears that Margaret was born in the city of Norwich, baptised in the church of St Julian there, and was aged 14 and more on 13 October last. John married Margery, still living, on the day that Margaret was baptised. Peter atte Cros , 43 and more, knows because William son of Peter died after a long illness on the day of the birth. Robert Gleme , 42 and more, knows because Joan his wife gave birth to a son called Andrew. John Fyscher , ‘bocher’, 44 and more, knows because such a wind blew up in the city that many houses collapsed. John Herman , 46 and more, carried a torch before Margaret as she was borne to the church for baptism. Robert Sleper , 50 and more, was thrown so violently to the ground by his horse that he broke his left shin. This happened on the day of Margaret’s baptism. Nicholas Basyn , 45 and more, carried the basin and ewer before Margaret as she was borne to the church for baptism. Robert Grey , ‘peyntour’, 41 and more, carried two silver pots full of red wine to the church: the wine was for Margaret’s godparents and other bystanders. Thomas Dewe , 48 and more, fetched Alice Maderes to wet-nurse Margaret. John Roo , 49 and more, let an acre of land to John Atkynson for 14 years. The lease was made by deed dated the Michaelmas before Margaret’s birth, viz. 1416, and it ended on Michaelmas last. John Baker , ‘barbour’, 47 and more, knows because Miles his son was born the Martinmas following Margaret’s birth. Miles is now 14 and more. Clement Honynge , 43 and more, knows because Emma his wife died on 1 August before the birth of Margaret.
