JOHN BROTHER OF THOMAS CRESSY

Regarding his inheritance as brother of Thomas Cressy son of John Cressy, senior , who held of ‪ Henry IV in chief. Thomas died a minor in the wardship of ‪ Henry IV . Regarding also his inheritance as kin and heir of Hugh Mortimer, chevalier , who held of ‪ Henry IV in chief. The lands and tenements are in the custody of John Moungomery, chevalier , and Elizabeth his wife, lately the wife of John Norbery and executor of his will. Inform them of the forthcoming proof of age.

[Dorse:] John Moungomery and Elizabeth were informed of the day and place of the proof of age by John Mychell , Simon Horne , Henry Davy , and Thomas Marche .

William Cressy of Dodford, 60 and more, swears that John was 21 on 25 March 1428, born at Dodford, and baptised in the church of St Mary there on 25 March 1407. Asked how he knows, he says that he stood as John’s godfather on 25 March 1407, and twenty-one years had passed since then on 25 March 1428. John Broke of Wappenham, 52 and more, was with William Cressy at Dodford on the day of the birth, and William told him that Christine wife of John Cressy, senior , by god's grace (deo dante), had given birth to a son and that he was to raise this son from the font. He asked John Broke to witness the baptism. John Broke did so and thus saw John raised from the font. Robert Salmon of Weedon Bec or Weedon Lois (Wedon), 48 and more, says that Alice his daughter was baptised in the church of St Mary , Dodford, on the day of John’s birth and baptism. Henry Michell of Dodford, 54 and more, says that John his first-born son was born and taken to the church of St Mary , Dodford, for baptism on the day following. His godfather was John Cressy, senior . Simon Horne of Daventry, 48 and more, performed homage to William, Lord Zouche , at Harringworth for a tenement there. He had a letter of homage. William Maystre of Dodford, 62 and more, purchased 3 messuages in Daventry from Thomas Page for 20 marks, payable at Midsummer then following. Robert Wilcokes of Weedon Bec or Weedon Lois (Wedon), 54 and more, broke his right arm in a fall while going home from the church. John Alybon of Dodford, 48 and more, says that Thomas his son was born and baptised in the church of Dodford. Thomas Marche of Daventry was godfather. Roger Knyght of Dodford, 52 and more, says Agnes daughter of Henry Davy married Henry Dawe at Dodford, and Henry Davy delivered them seisin of a messuage and ten acres of land in Dodford, on the same day, in the presence of William Maystre , John Bere , and others. Henry Wodham of Weedon Bec or Weedon Lois (Wedon), 48 and more, says that Lucy his sister was buried at the priory of Daventry. He was executor of her will. William Pernell of Dodford, 54 and more, bought 20 a. wood at 40s. an acre from the prior of Daventry in his wood of Daventry. He had an indenture sealed with the common seal of the house. Thomas Pounsy of Dodford, 58 and more, apprenticed Richard his son to William Spryggy of Northampton, merchant, and delivered £10 silver to William for Richard’s use in the presence of the mayor of Northampton , and others.
