THOMAS SON OF THOMAS HESILRIG OF ESLINGTON

Regarding his inheritance as son of Thomas Hesilrig of Eslington who held of ‪ Henry VI in chief. The lands and tenements are in the custody of Thomas Broket by commission of Henry VI [CFR 1422–1430, pp. 26–7]. Inform him of the forthcoming proof of age.

[Dorse:] Thomas Broket was informed by Roger Downkan , John Scot , Thomas Daker , and John Holt that the proof would take place at Newcastle upon Tyne on 22 March 1429.

Thomas Lilleburn , 46 and more, swears that Thomas was born at Eslington, baptised in the church of Whittingham, and was 21 and more on 29 Sepember last. He knows because Joan his daughter was born on the same day as Thomas. Adam Kyllyngworth , 47 and more, knows because Andrew his son died after a long illness. John Mitford, senior , 45 and more, was present at the baptism of Thomas and saw when Thomas Dunker , godfather, gave him 40s. John Herle , 51 and more, married Katherine daughter of Richard Hobson on the day of the birth. Roger Fenwyk , 44 and more, was riding to Morpeth and stripped of his goods by thieves along the way. James Buk , 48 and more, was hunting in Rothbury forest when a deer ran over him and he was thrown to the ground. He broke his left arm. Robert Vaux , 49 and more, held the basin with ewer in the church. William Rotherford , 50 and more, saw Katherine Heron , godmother of Thomas, gave him 20s. and a gold ring. John Babyngton , 52 and more, met Thomas’s godfather and godmother at the end of the vill of Eslington, where he fell into a ditch and was almost drowned. Robert Langwath , 53 and more, held a candle at the baptism. Henry Robson , 46 and more, knows because Richard his son was born on the same day as Thomas. Richard Heppell , 44 and more, held a torch in the church.
