JOHN CHEYNDUYT

Writ Head

65 Writ. 13 July 1430.

Order to John Cork and John Mayewe, John Trewyk and John Pengelly, each of Cornwall, to render account for the following lands and tenements on the morrow of Michaelmas: the manor of Bodannon and the bailiwick of the hundred of Trigg, except one messuage in the same manor, 2 Cornish a. land, 1/10 knight’s fee in Bowithick, and 1/20 knight’s fee mortain in Tregeare. The manor and bailiwick were held, exceptions excepted, by John Cheynduyt of the king in chief as of his castle of Launceston as of his duchy of Cornwall by knight service and seized into the king’s hands at the time of John’s death. An account is yet to be rendered. Per originum, 6 Henry VI, roll 7.

Writ Head

Writ: order to make an extent of the above lands and tenements, exceptions excepted, and return it to the barons of the Exchequer on the morrow of Michaelmas.

Holdings
Bodannon, the manor. There is, exceptions excepted, one principal messuage, worth nothing yearly above repairs; 120 a. arable, each acre worth 6d. yearly; 20 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 40 a. pasture, each acre worth 2d. yearly; and 30s. 2d. rent yearly from free tenants.
The annual value of the bailiwick of the hundred of Trigg is 6s. 8d.
There is also in the same manor ¾ knight’s fee that John Hille and John Bodvelgate hold, commonly worth nothing yearly except upon incidence of the death of a tenant, a tenant, ward, marriage, or relief. There is nothing else in the same manor, nor more lands or tenements that are worth anything, except as excepted in the writ.
