The jurors say that Thomas was born at Wootton on 11 June 1400 and baptised in the parish church of Wellington, and was aged 23 years last 11 June. They recollect for the following reasons. John Mawene , aged 45 years, was at Wellington at the time of Thomas’s birth and saw him carried to the church for baptism. Roger Erliche , 50 years, was retained at Wootton on the day of Thomas’s birth with John Croft, esquire , to serve for a whole year in safe-keeping the Scottish marches. John Brugge , 56 years, and Walter Bradeford , 48 years, were, at the time of Thomas’s birth, with Hugh Mawe in a negotiation between Hugh and various men of Leominster over certain disputes and debates between Hugh and these men of Leominster. Walter Knotte and John Bokenhull , both 46 years, Thomas Hode , 47 years, and Thomas Credy , 60 years, were at Wellington on pilgrimage to St Margaret ’s at the time of Thomas’s birth. John Glasier and Richard Waytes , both 48 years, John Payn , 50 years, and William Pacheshale , 48 years, at the time of Thomas’s birth were invited to the wedding of John Pleybury and Joan who were married the same day in Moreton ?on Lugg church. Thus all the jurors swear that Thomas Dounton is aged 23 years and more.
