He held no lands or tenements in his demesne as of fee or in service of Henry V in chief or of any others. He was lately seised in his demesne as of fee of 2/3 manor of Plumtree and the advowson of 2/3 church of the manor, 17s. 6d. free rent in Wood Hall, Risley and Breaston in Derbyshire, part of the manor of Plumtree, the reversion of the third parts and reversion of 6s. 8d. free rent in Chaddesden in Derbyshire, part of the same manor and then held in dower by Eleanor Fitzwilliam , his mother [CCR 1413–19, p.469]. By his charter dated 1 May 1421 and shown to the escheator and jurors, he granted the above among other manors, lands, tenements, rents, reversions and services, to Thomas Langeley, bishop of Durham , William Kynwalmerssh, lately Treasurer of England , now deceased, Edmund Fitzwilliam , Thomas Clarell, esquire , Richard Wenteworth and John Melton , their heirs and assigns. In the grant these were described as his manor of Plumtree in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, the advowson of the churches, chantry, chapter and hospital in Plumtree, all other lands, tenements, free or villein rents and services and suit whatsoever pertaining to the manor, all other manors, lands, tenements, rents and service, and reversion of all lands and tenements which he then held for life or for term of years, with their appurtenances and profits in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, and the reversion to him of all manors, lands and tenements which Eleanor his mother then held in dower in Plumtree and elsewhere as part of that manor. Eleanor attorned to the bishop and others at Warsop or Worksop, by payment of a gold noble. She died and the bishop and others entered 1/3 manor and the advowson of 1/3 church and 6s. 8d. free rent in reversion. The feoffees were additionally seised of 2/3 manor, advowson of 2/3 church and 17s. 6d. free rent. By his deed of quitclaim with close warrant, dated 1 June 1421 and shown to the escheator and jurors, John Fitzwilliam remised, released and quitclaimed for himself and his heirs, to the bishop and others, their heirs and assigns then tenants and possessors in the above form, all right and claim that he ever had or could have in all the above, described as in his grant, as is apparent more fully in his deed.
He died on 28 December 1421. William Fitzwilliam is his son and next heir, aged 5 years and more the day of this inquisition.

By his indented charter dated at Darrington, Michaelmas 1412, and shown to the escheator and jurors, by his deed he granted the above, except certain lands and tenements, rents and service there called ‘Walesfee’, to Thomas Clarell, esquire , to hold from the previous feast of St Laurence for 8 years, and he held for that term; remainder to John Fitzwilliam, esquire , named in the writ, and Margaret his wife, described as John his son and Margaret his wife, daughter of the same Thomas, and the heirs of their bodies, who held in their demesne as of fee tail. John died holding the above jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives.
