He held the castle of Rochester for life by grant of Henry IV , reversion to the king and his heirs. There pertain to the castle 53s. 3 1/2d. assize rent at the four terms, perquisites of court, view of frankpledge, waifs and strays, custom dues, pontage, anchorage and other services to the Crown, annual value £20. The castle is let at farm to William Sampson , who pays the £20 at Easter and Michaelmas in equal portions and has held it and received the outgoings and profits from Richard's death until the taking of this inquisition. £36 4s. castle-guard is paid by various tenants at the feast of St. Andrew
He died on 3 June last.
