Ela wife of Richard, father of Richard, held in dower 1 messuage and 4 shops in Broad Street in Broad Street ward in the parish of St. Peter le Poor with reversion to Richard. By an indenture, dated at ‘Lovellesmersshe’ in Somerset on 10 Oct. 1401 and shown to the jurors, she granted all her rights in them to Richard on certain conditions. With them she granted 2 knight’s fees in Milton Clevedon by Bruton, formerly held by Thomas Lovell, 1 1/2 fees in Sparkford and Badgworth, held by John Lord Lovel and Holand, 1/2 fee in Discove held by Thomas Caremele and Joan Tottenesse, 1/4 fee in Foxcombe held by John Hugin, the rents and services of all these fees and also of Richard de la Mare , William Northlode and Richard Juwell for their holdings in Chilton Foliat and Westbury, and the rents and services of George Bithemore for 11 1/2 hides in ‘Alwardeston to hold for her life, but if Richard should die during her lifetime then all should revert to her for life. If in future she should stay in London then she should have the messuage at her pleasure, when not there Richard should have it. The witnesses to the indenture were William Sturton , John Mannyngford , John Fauntleroy , Robert Leddred , Thomas Barwe and others.
