CHRISTOPHER CONYERS SON OF ROBERT CONYERS, ESQUIRE, AND ISABEL HIS WIFE

Regarding his inheritance as son and heir of Robert who held certain lands and tenements of the king by curtesy after the death of Isabel his wife, from the inheritance of Christopher. The lands and tenements of the inheritance are in the custody of William Ebre, knight, by grant of the king [CFR 1430–37, p. 113]. Have William informed of the forthcoming proof of age.

Jurors: Thomas Bukton ; William Naulton ; John Naulton ; Robert Naulton ; William Dalton ; Thomas Gray ; Robert Lokton ; John Baroby ; John Wyvell ; William Wodcok ; William Swynton ; and John Chaumbirlayn .

The jurors were examined about the age of Christopher, and swear that he was aged 21 on the feast of St Petronilla last [31 May]. He was born at New Malton and baptised in the church of St Leonard’s there.n527 They know for the following reasons. Thomas Bukton , 60 and more, went to fetch William Boynton , Christopher’s godfather, so that he would come to the baptism. He went at the command of Christopher’s father. William Naulton , 50 and more, carried the basin and ewer to the church. John Naulton , 46 and more, carried a torch to the church. Robert Naulton , 53 and more, went to fetch Alice Naulton , Christopher’s godmother, so that she would come to the baptism at New Malton. William Dalton , 44 and more, knows because William Tracy was espoused to Alice, daughter of John Vessee . Thomas Gray , 50 and more, knows because the bridge of Malton collapsed. Robert Lokton , 60 and more, knows because the house of John Webster caught fire. John Baroby , 50 and more, knows because John Seteryngton was professed as a canon in the abbey of Old Malton. John Wyvell , 46 and more, knows because William Chapman, chaplain , celebrated his first mass on the Sunday before that feast of St Petronilla. William Wodcok , 40 and more, went to fetch Alice Wyntir , midwife to Christopher’s mother, at the time of the birth. William Swynton , 50 and more, held salt at the door of the church and a cerge at the font. John Chaumbirlayn , 50 and more, knows because William his son was born on the day of Christopher’s baptism, and he is aged 21 and more.
