Long before the assignment of dower to Elizabeth, the manor was burdened, with royal licence, with an annual payment of £40 to William Botreaux, knight, Lord Botreaux , and Elizabeth his wife, daughter of Ralph Daubeney, knight , and their heirs and assigns.424 It was also burdened, also with royal licence, with an annual payment of 10 marks to the chantry of St Trinity there. Elizabeth was thus burdened with paying £11 2s. 2 1/2d. yearly during her life to William Botreaux and Elizabeth his wife and to the chantry, as a third of two parts of the total sum due. The lordship or manor of South Petherton with its members is held of the king in chief by knight service.
