Regarding his inheritance as son of Thomas Hibburne who held of ‪ Henry V in chief. The lands and tenements are in the custody of Thomas Holden by commission of ‪ Henry V [CPR 1422–29, p. 157].n233 Have him informed of the forthcoming proof of age.

Holdings

They swear that John Hibburne was 22 years of age and more on 4 May last. He was born at Newcastle and baptised in the church of All Saints on 28 October 5 Henry V [1417]. John de Hall , deceased, and John Hall, chaplain , still living, were godfathers. Asked by the mayor and escheator how they know, the jurors well recollect for the following reasons. Thomas Chirden , 60 and more, says that John Hall, godfather of John Hibburne, died within 6 days of the birth. He attended the obsequies. William Raynaldson , 66, carried a wax cerge during the baptism. Robert Langwath , 64, says that a certain John Rodys , serving as king’s justice of the peace on the 4 November following, was sitting on inquisitions regarding the peace in ‘le Gildhall’. John Hunter , 60, knows because the day of truces between England and Scotland was held at Hawden Stank on 3 November following. William Stoddart , 66, paid £20 for lead on 10 November following in St Nicholas’ church in Newcastle, bought from Thomas Langton . William Emneth , 49, knows because his ship, laden with wheat, was ship-wrecked at Hartlepool on the 9 November following. John Sampyll , 50, returned from hunting and came across John Hibburne being carried in the arms of a woman towards the church for his baptism. John Welles , 60, knows because Robert Welles , his brother, married Margaret in St Nicholas’ church on 14 January following. Henry Webster , 67, knows because John Hunt , a kinsman of his wife, was delivered of a verdict of trespass before the king’s justices in session at the royal castle at Newcastle on 8 August following. William Plummer , 70, knows because Joan his daughter was baptised in St Andrew’s church on 2 March following. John Alnewyk , 62, received a tenement in fee, in which he now lives, from Laurence Acton, esquire , on 4 April following. William Rede , 62, was elected keeper of the prison called ‘le Newzate’ on 16 January following by the mayor and sheriff of Newcastle. John Seman , 60, knows because Joan his daughter died and was buried in St John’s church on 6 May following. William Zote , 60, sued John Dale of Alnwick in a plea of debt of £10 on 7 March following before the mayor in the Guildhall.
