GRACE WHO WAS WIFE OF RICHARD BAYNARD

Holdings
She held no lands or tenements in demesne as of fee or service of the king in chief, or any other. Thomas Priour , John Danyell of Isleham, Robert Neuport , Nicholas Morys , John Burgoyne , John Stanford, clerk , and Thomas atte Ponde, clerk , were seised of the following manor, advowson, and hundred in demesne as of fee.
Easthorpe, the manor and advowson of the church, held of the king by knight service as of the king’s honour of Boulogne. There is a site with various houses, worth nothing yearly; a garden, worth 12d. yearly; 300 a. arable, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 80 a. pasture, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 20 a. meadow, each acre worth 18d. yearly; 140 a. wood, worth nothing because newly cut; 104s. assize rent from free tenants, payable at Michaelmas and Easter equally; and perquisites of court with view of frankpledge held yearly on Tuesday in Easter week, worth 6s. 8d. yearly above the steward’s expenses.
The church is worth 4d. yearly.
Lexden, the hundred, held of the king by fee-farm, viz., 4 marks yearly at Michaelmas and Easter equally, payable to the king and his heirs.
They granted them for life to Margaret who was wife of John de Peyton, knight , with remainder to John son of John de Peyton, esquire , and Grace his wife, and the heirs of the body of John son of John. Royal licence was obtained from ‪ Henry IV [CPR 1405–1408, p. 344]. Margaret was thus seised as of free tenement, and afterwards died seised of this estate. With due prosecution previously made in ‪ Henry IV ’s Chancery, John son of John and Grace his wife had livery of the manor, hundred, and advowson according to the form of the grant and licence. They were jointly seised, and John son of John afterwards died seised of this estate. Grace continued in her estate and possession for all her life from the time of the death of John son of John. She held the following manors for life by demise of Robert Warner of London and Roger Rye of Kent, with remainder to John Martyn of Kent, lately one of the king’s justices of the Common Bench, William Coggeshale, knight , John Tyrell , William Rockwode of Acton, John Burgoyne of Dry Drayton, Walter Gawtron , lately of London, Thomas Martell, esquire , Richard Wakkefeld, esquire , Robert Wrytele , Richard Fitz Nicholl of Halstead, Roger Racheham, esquire , and John Marlere , all now deceased, and Maurice Bruyn, knight , Lewis Johan , Robert Darcy of Maldon, Thomas Campes , John Bederenden of London, John Symond of Toppesfield, John Beche of Colchester, John Ewell, esquire , and Henry Stampe, junior , all still living, and their heirs and assigns.
Messing, the manor, held of the king as of the honour of Rayne as a knight’s fee. There is the site with various houses, worth nothing yearly; a garden, worth 6d. yearly; 180 a. arable, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 32 a. pasture, each acre worth 6d. yearly; 12 a. meadow, each acre worth 18d. yearly; 80 a. wood, worth nothing because newly cut; 52s. assize rent from free tenants, payable at Easter, Midsummer, Michaelmas, and Christmas, equally; and perquisites of court with view of frankpledge held yearly, worth 2s. yearly above the steward’s expenses.
and the manors, annual value 10 marks, held of the heir of John Gernon, chevalier , by service of one gilly-flower, payable at Christmas for all services.

She died on 6 May last. Thomas de Peyton is her son and next heir and also son and next heir of John son of John de Peyton, esquire. He was aged 22 years and more when Grace died.
