Simon de Creye, senior , was seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Lower Burgate with view of frankpledge, and the hundred of Fordingbridge with view of frankpledge. By a fine levied at Westminster on the quindene of Michaelmas 1286 before Thomas de Weylaund and his associates, justices of the Common Bench [CP 25/1/285/23, no. 168], shown to the jurors, he granted the manor, hundred, and views of frankpledge, among other manors in Essex, to John Ryvers and Maud his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies, to hold of the king in chief by service belonging to the manor, with remainder to the right heirs of John Ryvers . John and Maud were thus seised in demesne as of fee tail, and had issue: John. John Ryvers and Maud afterwards died seised of their estate. John entered the manor of Lower Burgate as their son and heir, and was thus seised in demesne as of fee tail. He had issue: Edmund and Christine, and died. Edmund had issue: Katherine, and died. Katherine afterwards married William... and they entered the manor in right of Katherine as kin and heir of John son of John Ryvers and Maud, viz., daughter of Edmund son of John son of John Ryvers and Maud. They were thus seised in demesne as of fee tail in right of Katherine, and had issue: John Ryvers , named in the writ, alias John Lekhull . William and Katherine died so seised, and John Ryvers entered the manor of Lower Burgate as son and heir of Katherine. He was seised in demesne as of fee tail, and died seised of such estate without heir of his body.He died on 13 February last. William Bulkeley of Eaton in Cheshire, esquire, is his kin and next heir as son of John Bulkeley son of Christine sister of Edmund father of Katherine mother of John Ryvyers . He is aged 40 years and more.
