Burgate with view of frankpledge, and the hundred of Fordingbridge with view of
frankpledge. By a fine levied at Westminster on the quindene of Michaelmas 1286 before
Thomas

Weylaund
and his associates, justices of the Common Bench [CP 25/1/285/23, no.
168], shown to the jurors, he granted the manor, hundred, and views of frankpledge,
among other manors in Essex, to
John
Ryvers
and Maud his wife, and to the heirs of their
bodies, to hold of the king in chief by service belonging to the manor, with remainder
to the right heirs of
John
Ryvers
. John and Maud were thus
seised in demesne as of fee tail, and had issue: John.

Ryvers
and Maud
afterwards died seised of their estate. John entered the manor of Lower Burgate as their son
and heir, and was thus seised in demesne as of fee tail. He had issue: Edmund and Christine,
and died. Edmund had issue: Katherine, and died. Katherine afterwards married William...
and they entered the manor in right of Katherine as kin and heir of John son of
John
Ryvers
and Maud, viz., daughter of Edmund son of John son of
John

and Maud. They were thus
seised in demesne as of fee tail in right of Katherine, and had issue:

the manor of Lower Burgate as son and heir of Katherine. He was seised in demesne as of fee
tail, and died seised of such estate without heir of his body.
Lower Burgate, the manor,
held of the king
in chief as 1/9 knight’s fee. There is a capital messuage with adjacent
garden worth 12d. yearly; one carucate of arable demesne, worth 20s. yearly; 66 a. meadow,
worth £4 yearly; and a park, its pasture worth 5s. yearly. There are 4 a. timber wood in the
meadow, worth nothing yearly. There are 200 a. heath, worth 5s. yearly; 24 messuages and 2
carucates of land, demised separately to various tenants-at-will by rent of 100s., payable
at Easter,
Midsummer,
Michaelmas, and Christmas equally; £4 service rent taken yearly from
various tenants at the said feasts equally; and perquisites of court, worth 5s. yearly.
Fordingbridge, the hundred with view of frankpledge, worth 20s. yearly.
He died on 13
February last.
