Holdings
Simon de Creye, senior , was seised in his demesne as of fee of the manor of Burgate with the hundred of Fordingbridge and view of frankpledge there and in the county and at the manor, which belong to the manor. By a fine levied on the quindene of Michaelmas 1286 [CP 25/1/285/23, no. 168], one part of which was shown to the jurors, he granted the manor, hundred and views of frankpledge, described as the manor of Burgate, among other manors in Essex, to John de Riparijs and Maud his wife and his heirs by her, remainder if John die without such heirs, or if the heirs of Maud’s body die without heirs, to John’s right heirs, to hold of the king in chief by the service belonging to the manor. John and Maud were seised in their demesne as of fee tail and had issue John. They died and John the son entered the manor as their son and heir and was seised as above and had issue Edmund and died. Edmund had issue Katherine and died. Katherine married William Lekhulle and in her right as kinswoman and heir of John, son of John and Maud, being the daughter of Edmund, son of John their son, they entered and were seised in her right as above. They had issue John Ryuers alias John Lekhulle , who survives. William died and Katherine married John Halle , named in the writ, and they had issue Drew. Katherine died seised in the above form and John Halle held the manor by curtesy, reversion to John Ryuers alias John Lekhulle as her son and heir as above.He died on 20 March last. John Ryuers alias John Lekhulle is the son and next heir of Katherine, aged 30 years and more.
