Holdings
Owing to the death of Francis and the minority of Thomas his son and heir, the manors of East Tytherley and Lockerley came to the hands of Henry V. By letters patent dated Westminster 2 February 1408 and shown to the jurors [CPR 1405–1408, pp. 405–6], Henry IV granted the manors to Francis de Court, knight, and to the heirs male of his body from Michaelmas then last, to hold of the king and his heirs by due service with all manner of franchises, liberties, knights’ fees and services, advowsons of churches, and all other things in perpetuity, with reversion wholly to the king and his heirs. By letters patent dated Westminster 6 October 1414 and shown to the jurors [CPR 1413–1416, p. 232], Henry V granted custody of the manors with knights’ fees and all other profits to Lewis John , to have from 7 December 1413 until the heir’s majority, with marriage of the heir. The manors of
and are held of the king in chief by knight service and their annual value together is 20 marks. No lands or tenements that came to the hands of Henry V for the above reasons are held of any other but the king, and no lands or tenements, except the said manors, came to the hands of Henry V or to those of Henry VI for the above reasons.He died on 20 May 1424. Henry brother of Thomas, son of Francis, is next heir by virtue of the grant and aged 18 and more.
