St Margaret’s, Walmgate, a messuage, worth 10s. yearly.
St Laurence outside Walmgate, a messuage, worth 6s. 8d. yearly.
St Helen’s, Aldwark, 5 small messuages lying on the corner of Aldwark against Goodramgate way. Two messuages are worth 15s. yearly, and three messuages are worth 9s. yearly.
St Helen’s, Stonegate, a messuage in Blake Street, worth 20s. yearly.
St Margaret’s, Walmgate, rent of 6s. from a tenement.
He willed, as customary, the lands, rents, and tenements with advowson to Joan Hornby his wife, for life with successive remainders to William Hornby , his kinsman, and the heirs of his body; to Joan Hornby , William’s sister, and the heirs of her body; to Beatrice Hornby , sister of William and Joan, and the heirs of her body; to John Hawand , and the heirs of his body; with reversion to the right heirs of Ralph in perpetuity. After Ralph’s death, Joan entered the messuages, was seised, and took the issues. After her death, William Hornby entered in ‘remeyndr’. He died without heir of his body and so Joan Hornby entered the messuages in her ‘remeyndre’. Beatrice and John Hawand died without heirs of their bodies while Joan was still alive, and then Joan died without heir of her body.
The above should revert to Sir William Lax, vicar of Hornsea in Holderness. He and no other is Ralph’s kin and right heir as the son of Thomas son of Robert older brother of Ralph. Ralph also had a younger brother called John. Ralph died on 17 October A.D.1378. Sir William Lax is aged 51 and more.
