Holdings
She held no lands or tenements in demesne or service in demesne as of fee of the king in chief or any other. John Merbury , Edward Brugge, esquire , and William Poleyn were seised in demesne as of fee of the following, which they They demised the manor to Richard Oldcastell and Elizabeth his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies in perpetuity, with reversion to John, Edward, and William, to hold of the king and his heirs by due service. The demise was made by a charter dated Dymock 7 June 1421, shown to the jurors. Royal licence was not obtained. By letters patent dated Westminster 8 July 1422, shown to the jurors [CPR 1416–1422, pp. 439–40], reciting, among other things, that John Merbury , Edward Brugge , and William Poleyn had entered the manor by a gift made to them and their heirs by Edmund Ryall , and then demised the manor, as above, to Richard Oldcastell and Elizabeth who entered it without royal licence, Henry V pardoned them and granted to them and their heirs as much in the same manor as they already had. Richard died and Elizabeth continued her estate for life. She died seised without an heir by Richard. The manor was held with reversion to John Merbury , Edward Brugge , and William Poleyn , all still living. Each is aged 40 and more.She died on 3 October 1428. John Philipot is her son and next heir, and aged 21 and more.
