ELIZABETH WIFE OF THOMAS SLYFELD

947 Writ to assign dower, ‡ 24 Nov. 1421. [Wymbyssh]. Teste John, duke of Bedford.

Addressed to the escheator in Surrey and Sussex, but endorsement of execution refers to only one inquisition. Thomas Slifeld and Elizabeth widow of George Brewes, esquire , who held of the king in chief, for a fine paid in the hanaper have been pardoned for marrying without royal licence [24 Nov. 1421: CPR 1416-22, p. 401] and George's lands have been taken into the king's hand because of the minority of his kinsman and heir Hugh Cokesey , son of Walter son [recte grandson] of Agnes sister of George. The escheator ordered to assign dower to Thomas and Elizabeth in the presence of Hugh's next friends or their attorneys.
