Inquisition Head
GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES Proof of age Gloucester 23 Feb. [John Grevell].
The jurors say that Isabel wife of Richard Beauchamp of Abergavenny, knight , sister and heir of Richard, son and heir of Thomas lord le Despenser , was born at Cardiff on 27 July (Septem dormientes) 1400 and was aged 14 on 27 July last, and this they know for the following reasons:
John Haresfield and William Stoughton , both aged 50 years and more, know that she was born on that day and baptised in St. Mary’s church, Cardiff, because they had a ship called ‘la Trynyte’ wrecked and sunk in the port of Cardiff then.
John Joce of the forest of Dean and Walter Toky, both 44 and more: on that day Owyn Glendordy came with his large army to the gates of Cardiff [ sic, 1400?].
Richard Harmeles and Richard Chaumberleyn , both 45 and more: that day Thomas bishop of Llandaff reconsecrated the graveyard of St. Mary’s, Cardiff, polluted by the effusion of blood, and afterwards baptised Isabel.
Richard Twynnyng and Thomas Whithed , both 46 and more: the house of John atte Stile , near their houses in Cardiff, was burnt down on that day.
John Salesbury and John Clerk , both 46 and more: Joan daughter of John Geffrey , their kinsman, was then married to John ap Adam in that church.
John Pavy of Tewkesbury and John Hasard , both 52 and more: John Gryffyth their godfather was buried in that church on that day.
