The jurors swear that she was born at Bigbury and baptised in the parish church there, and was aged 16 on the feast of St Margaret virgin [ 20 July ] last. They know this for the following reasons. Richard Fortescu , aged 40 and more, came from London on the same day at the request of Elizabeth’s father to tell him news from there, and then Elizabeth went home from church after the baptism. John Prideaux , aged 50 and more, bought a horse from William Bykebery on the same day. John Harry , aged 50 and more, came from Kingsbridge and met with the above John Prideaux and told him that William had a daughter who was baptized. Thomas Bryt , aged 40 and more, came from the county court at Exeter, and when he went home he himself had a daughter born. Henry Beare , aged 50 and more, met with John Ambros , a servant of William Bykebery , who was looking for the godfathers and godmothers. Walter Burell , aged 60 and more, was at Bigbury on the night after the baptism, when John Sturte , one of his servants, came and told him that he himself had a daughter born. Thomas Stone , aged 40 and more, was at Bigbury on the day of the baptism and bought 40 sheep. Richard Yeo , aged 50 and more, was at Modbury and fell from his horse on the way home, breaking his arm. Richard Vyncent , aged 40 and more, met Elizabeth, wife of William Danylis , who was there to be Elizabeth’s godmother. John Shilston , aged 50, rode to Plymouth after the baptism to look for sweet wine, and was nearly drowned when riding across (ultra) the water. William Mey , aged 60, knows because William Bykebery sent to him to ask him to be Elizabeth’s godfather, but he could not ride because of various infirmities. John Belleworthy , aged 60, was at Bigbury in the church and saw the baptism.
