Holdings
John Dalton, chevalier , was seised of the following in demesne as of fee, holding of ‪ Henry IV in chief.
Apethorpe, £39 19s. rent, payable at Easter and Michaelmas equally, held of the king in chief by knight service.
A fine was levied at Westminster on the morrow of St John the Baptist 1402 [CP 25/1/179/90, no. 25], before William Thyrnyng , William Rykhill , John Markham , William Hankeford , and William Brenchesley , justices, and others present, between Roger Thomlynson of Bispham and William Grenehirst, querents , and John Dalton, chevalier , and Isabel his wife, deforciants, regarding the rent in Apethorpe. John Dalton recognised it to be the right of Roger and William, as held by grant of John. For that recognition, Roger and William granted it to John Dalton and Isabel to hold for their lives, with successive remainders to Roger Dalton , described as Roger, son of John and Isabel, to hold to him for life; to the heirs of the bodies of John and Isabel; to the heirs of the body of Roger son of John; to the heirs of the body of John; and to the right heirs of John. Royal licence was previously obtained [CPR 1401–1405, p. 106]. One part of the fine was shown to the jurors. John and Isabel had issue of their bodies: Richard Dalton. John, Isabel, and Roger Dalton afterwards died, and Richard Dalton was seised of the rent in demesne as of fee tail, as son and heir of the bodies of John and Isabel. He had issue: Alice, and died seised of his estate.

He died on 29 November 1441. Alice is his daughter and next heir, and aged 20 and more.

[Head:] Delivered to court on 20 February 1442.
