A certain Elizabeth Lacy was seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Cressage at the time of ‪ Edward II . Thus seised, she married Walter Baskervyle, knight , and they had issue: John and Margaret. Walter afterwards died, and Elizabeth continued her estate in the manor for all her life and died so seised. The manor descended to John as her son and heir, who was seised in demesne as of fee and continued in this estate for all his life. He died so seised without heir of his body, and Margaret entered the manor as his sister and heir. She was seised in demesne as of fee, and married Robert Fouleshurst. They had issue: Thomas. Robert died, and Margaret continued her estate in the manor for all her life. She died so seised and the manor descended to Thomas as her son and heir. He was thus seised in demesne as of fee, continued in this estate for all his life, and died so seised. After his death, the manor descended to a certain Thomas, as son and heir of the same Thomas son of Thomas. He was seised in demesne as of fee and, thus seised, married Isabel, still living. Thomas continued his estate in the manor for all his life, and died so seised. After his death, 1/4 manor, among other things, was assigned to Isabel in dower. The 3 parts of the manor, with reversion of the quarter, descended to John as son and heir of Thomas son of Thomas. John was seised of the three parts in demesne as of fee, and of the reversion, and continued in this estate for all his life. He died so seised and the 3 parts with reversion descended to William, named in the writ, as brother and heir of John, because John died without heir of his body. William was thus seised of the 3 parts in demesne as of fee, and of the reversion, and continued in this estate for all his life. He died so seised without heir of his body. There is no surviving heir of Elizabeth Lacy. Cressage, the manor, held of Richard, present duke of York , by knight service as of his honour of Wigmore. Annual value of 3 parts of the manor, £10. The 3 parts should escheat to the duke, as should reversion of 1/4 manor when it falls after the death of Isabel, because William died without heir of his body and without heir of the blood of Elizabeth. He was seised of the following in demesne as of fee.
Pickthorn, 2 parts of the manor, annual value 40s., held of the king by petty serjeanty, viz., rendering 10d. and 3 parts of 1d. yearly to the king by the hand of the sheriff at Lady Day and Michaelmas equally.

He died on 21 October 1439. John Baskervyle, knight , is his kin and next heir on the side of Walter Baskervyle, knight, who married Elizabeth, viz., son of John son of Richard son of Richard son of Richard brother of Walter, great-great-grandfather (abavi) of William. John is aged 30 and more.

[Head:] Delivered to court on 22 November 1440.

n348^: Styled as esquire in m. 1 only, a writ. In the other writs, he is described as ‘of Edleston’.

n349^: The kinship between William Fouleshurst and his next heir, John Baskervyle is recorded inconsistently across the inquisitions of 417, 418, and 419. In 417, John is recorded as the ‘son of John son of Richard son of Richard brother of Walter…’ and the E 149 copy of this inquisition is in agreement. However, the other two inquisitions (418, 419) and their E 149 counterparts record John as the ‘son of John son of Richard son of Richard son of Richard brother of Walter …’. The phrase ‘son of Richard’ is also inserted in some of these mss: the E 149 copy of 417 has ‘son of Richard’ inserted, thereby agreeing with the C 139 ms of 417; and in 418, ‘son of Richard’ is inserted in C 139, thereby agreeing with 419 and the E 149 duplicates of 418 and 419.

n350^: Margin: ‘demesne’.
