Each is aged more than 46 years. They swear that Edward Langeford is son and heir of Robert Langeford, chevalier , was born at Reading, and was baptised in the church of St Mary there on the vigil of St Matthew the Apostle 4 Henry V [20 September 1416]. James Lynde was godfather and Joan Lynde was godmother. John Mawdyte, parson , baptised Edward then and there, who reached 21 years on the feast of St Matthew last [21 September]. Robert Wodecok knows because, as clerk of the church, he attended to the parson’s needs regarding the baptism of Edward. He thus well recollects that Edward was aged 21 years on the feast of St Matthew last. Richard Coterell , Laurence Alisaundre , and Thomas Folkes , examined regarding the above, remember well because they set out on pilgrimage to the Roman court on the day that Edward was born. Vincent Bartlemewe remembers because William his son died after a long illness on the day of Edward’s birth. Robert Jacob well knows the age of Edward because Joan his wife gave birth to a son named Nicholas on the day of Edward’s birth. John Mylys well knows the age of Edward because his father died and was buried on the day of Edward’s birth. John Felde , well knows the time of the Edward’s birth because William his son carried a torch before Edward when he was being carried to the church for baptism. David Gower , well knows the age of Edward because he carried a basin and ewer before Edward when he was being carried to the church for baptism. John Absolon well remembers Edward’s age because he carried two silver pots to the church, full of red wine to refresh the godfathers, godmother, and other bystanders at Edward’s baptism. Thomas Baron well remembers the time of Edward’s birth because he fetched Elizabeth wife of Richard Sutton to be his wet-nurse on the day of the baptism. William Chariettour well remembers the time of Edward’s birth because there was such a wind in Reading that several houses collapsed.
