The jurors say that he was born at Newcastle upon Tyne, baptised in the church of All Saints there, and was aged 22 years on 23 November last. Robert Havson , 54, and John Halton , 52, know because on the day Thomas was born they bought a horse called ‘morel Gray’ from John Wetewode , his father, for 10 marks English money, payable the following Easter. On the same day they made a deed of obligation to this effect and gave it to John, who returned it to them upon payment at the agreed date, and they still have it in their custody. John Dey , 59, Robert Reade , 55, John Litster , 56, William Howetson , 57, Robert Holbek , 59, John Alnewyk , 60, Thomas Swan , 54, William Gudeneghbur , 56, Robert Penreth , 58, and Thomas Bamburgh , 62 and more, say that they were congregated in the church, standing there among many others, to hear a sermon by master Robert Hardyng , doctor of theology, and they saw Thomas Woller, chaplain , godfather of Thomas, write the day and year of his birth in the missal book of the church straight after he was baptised, which they subsequently inspected.
