Holdings
John de Sancto Johanne of Lagham was seised of the following in demesne as of fee.
Steeple Barton, the manor, annual value 40 marks, held of the king in chief as 3 parts of a knight’s fee.
By a fine levied at Westminster [CP 25/1/189/16 no. 8], between John de Sancto Johanne of Lagham, quer., and John de Ifeld , deforc., John de Ifeld granted the manor to John de Sancto Johanne for life, to hold of the king and his heirs by due service, with successive remainders to John son of John de Sancto Johanne and Katherine daughter of Geoffrey de Say, and the heirs of the body of John son of John; and to the right heirs of John de Sancto Johanne. All this is clear in the fine and the royal licence [CPR 1317–1321, pp. 519–20]. John de Sancto Johanne was thus seised as of free tenement, and John son of John married Katherine. John de Sancto Johanne afterwards died, and John son of John and Katherine entered the manor in remainder. John son of John was seised in demesne as of fee tail, and Katherine was seised as of free tenement. They had issue: Roger, William, and Nicholas. Roger died without heir of his body. William had issue: Peter. William died and Peter afterwards died without heir of his body. Nicholas and Emma his wife had issue: John. John father of Roger, William, and Nicholas died seised of his estate and Katherine was afterwards solely seised as of free tenement. John son of Nicholas afterwards had issue: Thomas de Sancto Johanne (named in the writ). John son of Nicholas died then Katherine died, and Thomas de Sancto Johanne, son and heir of John de Sancto Johanne son and heir of Nicholas and Emma, entered the manor. He was seised in demesne as of fee tail and died so seised. He held no other lands or tenements of the king in demesne or service, but held the following of others than the king in demesne as of fee.
Glympton, the manor, annual value £10. Of whom it is held is unknown.
Date of death and heir as 670.
