[1]+ John Stafford, clerk , lately keeper of the king’s privy seal, Robert Hulle , John Marchaunt , Peter Pole , Hugh Cary , and William Lee of Aston , were seised of the following in demesne as of fee, which they granted to John Lutterell, knight, and Margaret his wife, still living, and to their heirs together, with remainder to the right heirs of Hugh Lutterell, knight . John and Margaret were thus seised in demesne as of fee tail and John died seised of this estate.+[1]
Chilton, the manor, annual value 6 marks. It is not held of the king but of whom it is held and by what service is unknown.
Blannicombe, the manor, annual value 5 marks, held of Philip Courtenay, knight , as of his manor of Honiton, service unknown.

Edith who was wife of Hugh Deverell was seised of the manor of Cruxton in demesne as of fee, held as above of John Lutterell, knight, as of his castle of Dunster in Somerset by knight service and rendering 6d. yearly to John and his heirs at Candlemas only.

He held in demesne as of fee the castle and borough of Dunster, the manor and hundred of Carhampton with 49 knights’ fee and 4 fees mortain, and advowson of the priory of Bruton. The fees and advowson are parcel of the castle; and the castle, borough, manor, and hundred, with the manors of Minehead and Kilton, are held of the king in chief as a barony.
Dunster. The castle is worth nothing yearly. There is a court pertaining to the castle, called ‘Baronie Court’, that is held every three weeks, worth 20s. yearly; and, around the castle, there are 12 a. sloping pasture called ‘Casteldichepasture’, each acre worth 4d. yearly.
There is, in the borough, assize rent of £8 7s. 5d., 2 capons, and 2lb wax, delivered by various free tenants at Martinmas only; 13s. 3¾d. rent from a custom called ‘Burghryght’, payable yearly and delivered by the bailiffs of the borough at Hock-day; a market held each Friday, worth 13s. 4d. yearly; perquisites of court with view of frankpledge, worth 100s. yearly; and a fair, held yearly on the Monday in Pentecost week, worth 10s. yearly.
Carhampton, the manor. There is £10 5s. 7¾d. assize rent, delivered by various free tenants at the four terms by equal parts; rent of 2lb pepper, 1lb cumin, 10lb wax, 1 pair of gloves, rose, 44 capons, 8 hens, and 8 pullets, payable at Michaelmas only, price of each capon 2d.; 66 messuages, each worth 8d. yearly; 3 water-mills, each worth 60s. yearly; 2 fulling-mills, each worth 6s. 8d. yearly; one dovecot, worth 3s. 4d. yearly; 588 a. land, each acre worth 2s. yearly; 72 a. meadow, each acre worth 3s. yearly; 4 a. thatching reeds, each acre worth 3s. yearly; one park called ‘hangerparke’ containing 100 a. pasture and wood, worth 20s. yearly above pasturing game, and another park called ‘mersshwodeparke’ containing 270 a. pasture and wood, worth 40s. yearly above pasturing game; 203 a. wood, its pasture worth 5s. yearly; 300 a. furze, heath, and waste, each acre worth 1d. yearly; and perquisites of court with view of frankpledge, worth 30s. yearly. The hundred is worth 60s. yearly.
Continues as 552+[1] with regard to
the manor of Kilton, annual value £20.
He held the following conjointly with John Odelond, clerk , Hugh Cary , and Richard Popham , all still living, by enfeoffment of John Piers, lately rector of Widcombe , to John Lutterell, knight , John, Hugh, and Richard, and their heirs and assigns.
Carhampton, a messuage and a carucate of land, annual value 40s., lately of John Lutterell, esquire , and Joan his wife held, at the time of the enfeoffment, in chief of Hugh, knight, father of JohnLutterell, knight, as of his castle of Dunster.
Katherine widow of Hugh Lutterell, knight, held in dower with reversion to James, son and heir of John Lutterell, knight, and kin and heir of Hugh,
the manor of Minehead
and the
manor of East Quantoxhead
. The dower was assigned by John Gregory, escheator . He granted the office of parker at ‘hanger parke’ to Benet Tolouse for life for good service, taking 40s. yearly at the four terms of the year from the issues of the borough of Dunster, as apparent in the charter by which the grant was made, shown to the jurors. He granted the office of parker at ‘Mersshwodeparke’ to John Blanche for life, taking 40s. yearly from the issues of the manor of Carhampton, as apparent in the charter by which the grant was made, shown to the jurors.
