JOHN SON OF GEORGE SALVAN AND ELIZABETH

Regarding his inheritance as son of George and Elizabeth. George held of ‪ Henry V in chief by curtesy after the death of Elizabeth from the inheritance of John. The lands and tenements are in the custody of Thomas Broket by commission of Henry V [CFR 1413–1422, pp. 232–3, 358–9]. Inform Thomas of the forthcoming proof of age.

John Schether , 44 and more, swears that he was born at Kilham, baptised in the church of All Saints there, and was aged 21 and more on 26 January last. Margaret his daughter was born on the same day that John was born. Thomas Missen , 48 and more, says that John his own son died on the day of the birth after a long illness. William Brawnston , 45 and more, was riding to York when he fell victim to plundering thieves. Robert Forster , 52 and more, held the basin and ewer in the church. John Carlton , 49 and more, held a torch in the church. Richard Craneswyk , 50 and more, met a godfather and the godmother at the end of the vill of Kilham then fell into a ditch there and almost drowned. William Vilee , 46 and more, carried two silver pots to the church, full of red wine to refresh the godfathers, godmother, and others at the baptism. William Bramwyth , 58 and more, says that his horse threw him to the ground on the day of the baptism and he broke his left shin. Robert Barker , 54 and more, says that Joan his wife gave birth to a son called John. Richard Lytster , 53 and more, says that such a wind blew up in the vill that many houses collapsed. Thurstan Halley, 54 and more, married Isabel daughter of Robert Hunter . John Dally , 57 and more, was in the church during the baptism, and saw when John Salvan, esquire , godfather, gave 40s. to John.
