[Dorse:] By virtue of this writ and as required by it, I took the manors of Walbury, Hassenbrook, and Vange into the king’s hands.

He died seised of the following in demesne as of fee.
Walbury, the manor in Great Hallingbury, held of the king in chief, service unknown. There is a tiled great-hall with two solars at the end, another tiled building called ‘Noreerye’ with chambers attached, two parlours with a tiled solar above near the hall, 4 other chambers under one tiled roof, another house called the ‘maltynghous’, a tiled bakehouse and tiled cook-house, 2 stables, a sheepfold, large barn, and a tiled dovecot, worth nothing yearly; 120½ a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 10 a. pasture in a pasture called ‘Sowelese’, full of brambles, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 16 a. meadow, each acre worth 20d. yearly; 49 a. wood, worth nothing yearly above enclosure; 40s. 8d. assize rent, taken at the four usual terms; perquisites of court, worth 4s. yearly above the fee and costs of the seneschal; and 2 weakened fulling-mills, each worth 10s. yearly: sum 20s.
Hassenbrook, the manor in Stanford-le-Hope with advowson of the church there, held of the king in chief, service unknown. There is a hall called ‘Ferhous’, a weakened grange, a weakened sheepfold, and a building called ‘Shepene’ with a thatched roof, worth nothing yearly; 140 a. pasture, full of brambles, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 100 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 6 a. mown meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 40s. assize rent, taken yearly at the four usual terms; and view of frankpledge, held at the lord’s pleasure, worth 3s. yearly above the fee and costs of the seneschal.
Vange, the manor with advowson of the church there, held of the king in chief, service unknown. There are presently no buildings [on the manorial site]. There are 140 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 30 a. pasture, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 8 a. marsh, each acre worth 12d. yearly; a sheep-pound on the marsh, worth nothing yearly; 26s. 8d. assize rent, taken yearly at the four usual terms; and view of frankpledge, held yearly at the lord’s pleasure, worth 2s. yearly above the fee and costs of the seneschal.

He died on 7 September last. John is his son and next heir, and aged 10 and more.
