CHRISTINE WIFE OF DREW BARENTYN

Holdings
She held no lands or tenements of the king in chief or any other in demesne as of fee simple, fee tail, or in service. John Hale, clerk , John Selman , deceased, William Randolf , Henry James, clerk , deceased, John Stedesbury, clerk , deceased, John Blok, clerk , deceased, Thomas Senycle , John Fray , John Credy , deceased, William Est , deceased, William Beel , and John Wyssyngsete , deceased, were lately seised of the following in demesne as of fee simple, held of the king in chief as 1/6 knight’s fee.
Exning, 180 a. land, worth 60s. yearly, and 24s. rent, payable at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts;
2 parts of the manor of Exning called ‘Valens’, annual value £10, lately of Mary de Sancto Paulo, countess of Pembroke , now deceased;
the manor of Exning called ‘Jardyns’, annual value £13 6s. 8d.;
a third of 1/3 manor at Exning called ‘Valens’, annual value 100s., lately of Andrew Horn of Slinfold in Sussex and Alana his wife;
and a third of 1/3 Exning manor, lately of Robert Porter and Alice his wife.
By indented letters dated 30 September 1416, concerning all the aboven015 except the third of 1/3 Exning manor, and by other indented letters, also dated 30 September 1416, concerning the third of 1/3 Exning manor, lately of Robert Porter and Alice, John Hale etc. [as above] granted the above to Christine for life, to hold of the king and his heirs, with remainder to William Porter, knight , John Burgoyn , William Loksmyth , and John Ryvel , all still living, and Roger Flour and John Beawfour , now deceased, and their heirs, to hold of the king and his heirs in perpetuity. Royal licence was obtained by letters patent dated 27 August 1416, shown to the jurors [CPR 1416–1422, p. 41]. The letters dated 30 September 1416 were also shown to the jurors.

Christine died on 11 March last. William Wrooth , her kin and next heir as the son of William her brother, is aged 24 and more. The above has remained to William Porter , John Burgoyn , William Loksmyth , and John Ryvel , and their heirs in perpetuity by authority of the grant.

[The inquisition for Norfolk, ordered in the writ, is not extant.]
