He was seised in demesne as of fee of
the manor of Great Tew, held of the king as of his honour of Chester as a knight’s fee.
Long before his death and by charter, shown to the jurors, he granted it to Richard Cralle of Sussex, esquire, Alexander Cheyne of Kent, and Thomas Frankeleyn , and to their heirs in perpetuity, but the following free tenants never attorned to them.
Richard Purcell held 2 virgates and a water-mill, rendering 8s. yearly at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts
;
John Hilton held a messuage with 2 virgates and 2 a. land, rendering 5s. 9d. yearly as above
;
Emma Charley held a messuage and 4 virgates, rendering 8s. 6d. yearly as above
;
Agnes Barton held 1 a. arable, rendering 1½d. yearly at Easter
;
Thomas Newbrigg held 1 a. meadow, rendering 1d. yearly at Easter
;
Richard Bourman held a messuage and ½ virgate, rendering 2s. yearly at Easter
;
John Hosier held a messuage and virgate, rendering 4s. yearly at Easter
;
Thomas, abbot of Reading , held 12 a. meadow, rendering 1lb pepper yearly at Easter
; and
Joan, abbess of Godstow , held ½ virgate, rendering 1lb pepper at Easter.
The rents are parcel of the said manor, as they were at the time of the grant. They were thus held freely of John Wilcotes and he was seised of them in demesne as of fee. John Colles , William Chilton , Thomas Linger , Thomas Yerman , Clement Carter , William Warde , William Stokton , William Hendy , and Henry Bassh held the following in demesne as of fee
of John Wilcotes as of the manor of Great Tew at the time of the grant: 7 messuages with 2 cottages, worth nothing yearly, and 8 virgates and 8 a. land, each acre worth 6d. yearly, by rendering 2d. yearly at Easter.
They attorned to Richard Cralle , Alexander, and Thomas. Long afterwards and by charter, John Colles etc. [as above] granted the messuages, cottages, and land to John Wilcotes , and to his heirs and assigns in perpetuity. He died seised of them in demesne as of fee.

He died on 21 May 1422. Elizabeth and Margaret are his daughters and next heirs, and respectively aged 9 and more, and 8 and more.

After John’s death, Richard Walkstede, knight , and Elizabeth his wife took the profits and rents from the tenants who did not attorn to Richard Cralle etc. [as above], as well as issues from the messuages, cottages, and land.
