The jurors, separately examined, say that William was born at Stoke Poges and baptised in St Giles’s church there, and was aged 21 years on 8 December last, and now more. They know for the following reasons. William Gyles , aged 68 years, transferred to William a white horse which William Wyot , William’s godfather, had sent to William Gyles to give to William the son. William Wodeward , 50 years, says that William Kyngeston, late dean of the college of Windsor , William’s other godfather, gave William a beautiful sword of notable value, which he himself saw and held. Nicholas Wexham , 54 years, says that Juliane, William’s godmother, sent him a goshawk, which Nicholas clearly saw that day flying after a heron. John Osgod , 62 years, had a son named Hugh born that day and baptised in the same church. Thomas Barbour , 48 years, built a new hall in the vill that day. William Lyrere , 49 years, was plundered of £20 by unknown thieves at the end of the vill. Thomas Clerc , 44 years, saw William raised from the font about noon that day. Thomas Baylly , 47 years, heard such great and dreadful thunder that day that he was perturbed in his spirit and badly troubled. William Dorney , 55 years, was sent that day on business by Thomas Chaucer to Henry then king of England who was at Oxford. John Southe , 70 years, says that his kinsman named Peter married Katherine daughter of John Dale that day. William Hovell , 46 years, rode quickly from the manor of Stoke Poges to the abbey of Burnham immediately after William’s birth to inform William the father, of the birth of William his son, and he had a red gown, price 26s. 8d., for his labour. Thomas Fysshere , 48 years, sold a black horse with three white feet to Giles Storre for 40s. sterling.
