WILLIAM LE ZOUCHE, CHEVALIER , SON AND HEIR OF WILLIAM LE ZOUCHE, CHEVALIER

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. Proof of age. Northampton. 18 June 1425. [Knyghtley]

The jurors, separately examined, say that William was born at Harringworth and baptised in All Saints’ church there on 10 May 1403. Asked how they know William to be 22 years and more, they give the following recollections. John Revell , aged 60 years, was in the church at the time of the baptism and William le Zouche , the father, sent him to a place called Morehay to get a doe. John Overton , 50 years, was in the church at the time of the baptism and carried a burning torch. Thomas Burton , 52 years, rode for the abbot of Peterborough , godfather, and afterwards saw him act as godparent. William Parker , 54 years, was given the office of parker of Harringworth park by William le Zouche , the father. Richard ...nyn [ms worn and soiled], 60 years, that day had a son born, called John, who is aged 22 years and more. John Toly , 50 years, says that Emma Kede , ‘mydwyfe’, met him on the same day and told him that William the son, was born and baptised, as above. William Bayly , 60 years, rode for the lady of Castle Bytham to be the godmother and afterwards he saw him raised from the font. John Parker , 62 years, says that Alice Taylour met him on the same day and related to him that she was William the son’s wet-nurse, that she had a tenement in Harringworth by gift of William the father, and that William the son was born and baptised as above. William Guneld , 49 years, saw William raised from the font and that he himself had a brother, named John, born the same day who is aged 22 years and more. William Stafford , 60 years, saw William raised from the font and that he himself carried a silver basin with him to the church at the time of the baptism. John Cleydon , 60 years, was espoused to Agnes his wife the same day and saw William baptised as above. William Lyltylton , 48 years, the same day rode for the abbot of Pipewell to come to Harringworth to baptise William, and afterwards he saw William baptised as above.
