MARGERY DAUGHTER AND HEIR OF RICHARD BERNERS AND PHILIPPE HIS WIFE

Regarding inheritance from Philippe who held of ‪Henry V‬ in chief, and claimed by John Feriby , Margery’s husband.

SURREY. Proof of age. West Horsley. 9 December 1423. [Halle]

The jurors say that Margery was born at West Horsley on 30 November 1408, baptised in the parish church of St Mary there and was aged 14 years on 30 November last. They recollect for the following reasons. William Ingram , aged 43 years and more, at the time of her birth he was at ?West Horsley... carried [? to carry] [ms poor] her to church for baptism. Richard Stynt , 50 years and more, carried a torch before her when she was carried to church for baptism. Robert Berkele , 44 years and more, was sent to invite Mundina Raf of Witley to be her godmother. Stephen atte Welle , 42 years and more, was sent at the time of her birth to invite Edith, then wife of William Croyser , to be her other godmother. Robert Derby , 42 years and more, saw John Dene , then... [ms holed] of the church baptise Margery, and he was her godfather. Henry atte Lee , 43 years and more, was sent to Fetcham to invite Alice Edward to be midwife at her birth. William Stynt , 46 years and more, carried another torch before her when she was carried to the church for baptism. Thomas Fyndon , 50 years and more, carried a basin and ewer before her when she was carried to church for baptism. William Northwele , 47 years and more, says that on that day Joan wife of John Copyn died and was buried in the churchyard. Robert Stynt , 49 years and more, saw the same Mundina give Margery a silver gilt goblet containing 3 nobles. John Baker , 50 years and more, at the time of her birth was servant and baker to Richard her father and he carried three hot loaves to the church for eating at the time of her baptism. Thomas Fygge , 40 years and more, at the time of her birth was servant and butler to Richard her father and he carried wine and ale to the church for drinking at the time of her baptism.
