Inquisition Head

Holdings

He held the bailiwick of the forestership of the forest of Gillingham in fee tail by a fine levied quin. East. 1317 [CP 25/1/49/30, no. 105] between William and Alice Haym , quer., his grandparents, by Thomas de Harpeden in their places, and William de Buggelee and his wife Amice, def., by which def. granted the bailiwick to quer. and rendered it to them, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, remainder to William's right heirs. After the deaths of William and Alice and their son Godfrey the bailiwick descended to Godfrey's son and heir John Haym named in the writ according to the form of the fine. The bailiwick is held of the king in chief by service of keeping the forest and park of Gillingham, annual value 12d.

He died on 10 Feb. 1410 [not in CIPM XIX]. William Bydyk son of Godfrey Bydyk son of Margaret, elder daughter of William and Alice Haym and sister of Godfrey Haym father of John Haym , and Baldwin son of Alice daughter of Isabel, younger daughter of William and Alice Haym and sister of Godfrey Haym father of John Haym , are his kinsmen and next heirs, William aged 27 years and more, Baldwin aged 42 years and more.

William Godewyne and Thomas Hody took the profits from John Haym 's death but by what title the jurors do not know.

Holdings

He was seised in his demesne as of fee of a virgate in Gillingham to which the bailiwick of the keeping of the forest of Gillingham belongs. Long before his death by a charter shown to the jurors he gave the virgate to John Wyke , Richard Cressibien and Robert Wulrygge , who regranted it to John Haym and his wife Isabel and the heirs of John, reversion to John Belvale , his wife Katharine and the heirs of John, remainder to the right heirs of John Belvale in fee. Isabel wife of John Haym died; John and Katharine Belvale had issue Joan; Joan had issue Elizabeth; and Elizabeth married William Stourton and had issue John Stourton , who survives. Afterwards John Belvale, Joan daughter of John and Katharine, Elizabeth and Katharine widow of John Belvale all died. John Haym died without issue and the virgate remained to John Stourton as kinsman and heir of John and Katharine Belvale, i.e. son of Elizabeth daughter of Joan daughter of John and Katharine Belvale. The virgate is held of the king in chief by service of keeping the forest of Gillingham, annual value of the virgate and the bailiwick 6s. 8d.

Date of death as in 642. Baldwin Thornehull , aged 40 years and more, and William Bedyk , aged 24 years and more, are his kinsmen and next heirs.
