Holdings

By the death of William Orchard and because of the minority of his son and heir Richard the following came into the king's hand: 1/3 hamlet or manor of Bickenhall; the rent of a rose yearly at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist from 1/3 burgage and 1/3 curtilage in Taunton paid by William Borde who held it for life of William Orchard , to whom the reversion belonged; 1/3 messuage and 10 a. arable in Cossington and 1/3 cottage and 1 a. arable and 3s. 5d. rent from 2 a. meadow in Woolmersdon paid yearly at Christmas, Easter, the Nativity of St. John the Baptist and Michaelmas in equal portions from Hugh Scathelok , who holds for life by demise of William Orchard , to whom the reversion belonged. The reversion has come into the king's hand, where it remains.

Bickenhall. The 1/3 hamlet or manor is held of the king in chief by knight service and there are in it 30 a. arable worth 4d. an acre, 9 a. meadow worth 2s. an acre, 6 a. wood of which the pasture is worth nothing, and 30s. assize rents from various tenants paid at Christmas, Easter, the Nativity of St. John the Baptist and Michaelmas in equal portions.
Taunton. The 1/3 burgage with curtilage is held of the bishop of Winchester , service unknown. The reversion is worth nothing before it occurs.
Cossington and Woolmersdon. The 1/3 messuage and 10 a. arable and the 1/3 cottage and 1 a. arable are held of Robert Barent , service unknown, annual value of the 1/3 cottage and the 1 a. arable, 6s. 8d. The reversion of the 2 a. meadow is worth nothing before it occurs.

Richard son of William Orchard died on 21 June last. Christine daughter of William Orchard is his sister and next heir, aged 13 years on 30 Nov. 1419.
