AGNES WIDOW OF SIMON PAKEMAN

Addressed to the escheator in Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Inquire what lands she held in dower of her husband Simon. The endorsement of execution does not indicate whether an inquisition was produced for Warwickshire.

Holdings

In dower of Simon she held 1/3 Kirby Muxloe wood called `Pakemanswod' of the king in chief, service unknown, annual value nil.
It should descend to William son and heir of John Vylers , son and heir of Richard Vylers , son and heir of Joan, one sister and heir of Simon, under age in the king's ward, and Katharine widow of Robert Dygby the other sister of Simon. She also held in dower:
30 a. arable, worth 4d. each yearly, and 9 a. meadow, 2s. 6d. each, in Kirby Muxloe, held of the king in chief by knight service, with reversion to William,
and a close called `Williamsclos', worth 30s., in Whitwick, held of Lord Beaumont, service unknown,
with reversion to Katharine, by partition between Katharine and John Vylars, father of William.

She died on 24 Sept. last. Katharine is aged 80 years and more, William 14 years and more.

76A Writ de partitione facienda. 7 May 1418. [Wymbyssh]. Teste Humphrey, duke of Gloucester.

To the escheator of Leicestershire, pursuant to 76 above. For 6s. 8d. paid in the hanaper the homage of Katherine, widow of Robert Digby, one of the sisters and heirs of Simon Pakeman, for her purparty of 1/3 ‘Pakemanswod’ has been respited to Christmas next. Order to take Katherine’s fealty and security from her for payment of a relief, and to partition the 1/3 ‘Pakemanswod’ between her and William Vylers in the presence of Katherine and the next friends of William, and to deliver seisin to Katherine of her purparty and to retain William’s purparty in the king’s hand.
