GRACE SISTER OF AMERY NOWERS

Holdings

On the day that she took the religious habit and on the day that she was professed Grace, sister of Amery Nowers, held a third part of two parts of the manor of Gayhurst in fee tail, and jointly with her two sisters in fee tail the advowson of Gayhurst, by the grant of Edward III to John Nowers, knight , their father, Maud his wife and the heirs of his body with remainder to the king.

The manor of Gayhurst was held of the king in chief as half a knight’s fee; annual value of the third part of two parts 26s.8d.

Similarly she held a third part of two parts of the manor of Stoke Goldington and of the advowson by the grant of Robert Archer , sometime rector of Gayhurst , to John and Maud and the heirs of his body, of the king of the honour of Peverel as a quarter of a fee, annual value of a third part of two parts 24s.

Maud died without heirs by John. He married Alice who survives him having had issue Amery, Grace, Agnes and Joan. Grace was professed in St. Giles [in the wood, Flamstead] in Bedfordshire on 21 April last . Joan wife of Robert Nevyll , her sister and next heir, is aged 16 years.
