The manor of Helsington in Kendal, and a quarter of the manor of Kirkby in Kendal, except the castle of Kendal, were taken into the king’s hands owing to the death of Ralph de Lumley, knight , and because of the minority of Thomas his son and heir, and so they remain. They are held of the king in chief as an eighth part of a knight’s fee, annual value £30.

Margaret de Roos gave them to Marmaduke de Thweyng , ancestor of Ralph, whose heir the elder Thomas was, and the heirs of his body. Marmaduke held them in his demesne as of fee, and they descended to Marmaduke his son, Robert his son, William his son, Robert his brother, Thomas his brother, Isabel their sister, the mother of Ralph, and so to Thomas, and John de Lumley, knight , brother and heir of Thomas. Thomas was the son and heir of Ralph and died on 31 May 1400 under age.

John, knight , is son and heir of Ralph and brother of Thomas. He was aged 20 on 2 Feb. 1404 , and is now 20 years and more.
