A fine concerning the following, among other things, was raised in the quindene of John the Baptist 1429, in the king’s court at Westminster, between Richard Dyxton , John Thwenyo , and John Estmond of Rode, senior, querents , and Robert Longe, esquire , and Margaret his wife, deforciants. Robert and Margaret and the heirs of Margaret quitclaimed the moiety to Richard, John, John and their heirs, with warranty; for which Richard, John, and John granted the moiety to Robert and Margaret and the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of Margaret [CP 25/1/292/67/107, recorded on the octave of Michaelmas 1430 ]. Royal licence [CPR 1429–36, p. 79], previously obtained, was shown to the jurors. Robert and Margaret were seised in the said form. Margaret died, and afterwards Robert died, without heir male of the bodies of Robert and Margaret. By virtue of the fine, the manor ought to remain to Thomas Wayte , as son and heir of Margaret. He is aged 24 and more. Barton Stacey, ½ manor, held of the king in chief as ¼ knight’s fee. In the moiety there is the site of a manor, with a garden, worth 12d. yearly; 160 a. arable, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 6 a. meadow, each acre worth 18d. yearly; 20 a. several pasture, with a common pertaining to the moiety, worth 13s. 4d. yearly; 2 tofts, worth 2s. yearly; a water-mill, broken and it lies empty, worth nothing yearly; and 100s. assize rent, payable at the four principal annual terms.
